Character ‘bank’

It is a good idea to have a number of well thought out, well described characters ready in your mind, that can be pulled out and used in your story.

  • An old lady

  • A spooky/weird/creepy person A good friend

  • A teacher

  • A stranger who is not as they seem eg: looks friendly but isn’t, or looks unfriendly but isn’t

Settings ‘bank’

It is also a good idea to have a number of well thought out, well described settings ready in your mind.

  • A rocky seashore A wood

  • An empty house A deserted street An exam hall

So for a title of “Fear” you could start with your description of an empty house, pop in your description of a stranger who seems scary, describe how actually you discover the stranger is not scary, and finish with a reflection of how fear is sometimes in the mind only.

For the title “A funny thing happened today..” you could start with your description of a good friend, have the two of you going off to the rocky seashore, meet a stranger who looks unfriendly...etc etc
